MAY 2025

Welcome everybody, to the May Edition of our Newsletter!

As this month winds down, a gentle but collective exhale can be felt throughout our community — exams have been sat, final projects submitted, and the pressure of the past few weeks is finally giving way to a sense of relief. Whether you're a student, lecturer, or part of our dedicated support team, this moment marks more than just the end of a busy period — it's a time to reflect, recharge, and recognize how much we’ve achieved together.

May has reminded us that academic life is about more than just grades or deadlines. It’s about growth — personal, intellectual, and communal. Many students have not only tackled challenging coursework but have also stepped into new responsibilities, helped peers through difficult moments, or found their voice in the classroom. That growth may not always be visible at first glance, but it’s undeniably powerful.

Behind every success this month, there has been effort, resilience, and quiet determination. The kind that doesn’t always get celebrated but lays the foundation for real, lasting progress. It’s in the late-night study sessions, the brave questions asked in class, the encouraging words passed between classmates, and the gentle guidance from educators who genuinely care.

And while May has been full of academic intensity, it’s also been rich with human connection. We’ve witnessed community spirit thrive — a reminder that no one walks this journey alone. Growth happens best when it’s shared, and here at Ascencia, that’s exactly what we’re doing.

So, as we step into the second part of the year, we invite you to carry this momentum forward — not with pressure, but with purpose. Take this moment to breathe, to acknowledge how far you've come, and to prepare for what’s next.

Together, we’re not just progressing — we’re building a learning community grounded in courage, compassion, and continuous growth.

To new milestones & memories.. ✨

Our Director, Tess Giordmaina

At Ascencia, we pride ourselves on being more than just an educational institution — we’re a family. And every family has someone at its core; the person who keeps the wheels turning and the hearts aligned. For us, that person is none other than our very own Tess Giordmaina — the heart, soul, and vibrant spark of Ascencia Malta.💖

If you’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tess, you’ll know her smile radiates positivity, her laughter is infectious, and her presence fills the room with energy.

She can affectionately be compared to the “mum” of the house — not because she’s soft (although her compassion runs deep), but because she leads with strength, fairness, and an unwavering belief in people.

Tess began her journey in education as a teacher, and it’s this foundation that grounds everything she does. Her approach to leadership is deeply rooted in the classroom — where empathy, patience, and passion converge. She knows the student experience inside and out, and it shows in every decision she makes.

But don’t be fooled — behind that signature red hair and her warm demeanor lies a woman on a mission. Tess means business, and she’s not afraid to roll up her sleeves, set the standard, or deliver some tough love when it's needed. Her work ethic is legendary, and even as one of the busiest people on campus, she never turns down a chat, a check-in, or a heart-to-heart.

And if you haven’t met her in person yet, don’t worry — she’s also our unofficial social media star! 🌟 Just scroll through our platforms and you’ll spot her — fiery, fierce, and always representing Ascencia with pride.

To our students: it’s Tess’s vision, grit, and tenacity that have opened the door for you to learn, grow, and dream in Malta. To us, her staff: she is the lighthouse — guiding, supporting, and inspiring us to be our best selves.

Tess, from all of us: thank you for being the anchor and the spark of the Ascencia Malta family. We are privileged to walk this journey with you.

English Study Tip of the Month

“Don’t just study English — live it.”

Fluency doesn’t happen only at a desk. It happens in your mind, in your daily routines, and in your willingness to make mistakes.

Practical ways to make English part of your life:

  • Think in English
  • Label everyday items, write your to-do list in English, or talk to yourself out loud — narrate what you’re doing!

  • Immerse through media
  • Watch shows, listen to podcasts, or follow YouTubers in English. Start with subtitles, then try without. Repeat phrases and practice pronunciation.

  • Be social in English
  • Chat with classmates or staff, join language meetups, or switch your phone and apps to English — even 10 minutes a day makes a difference.

  • Mistakes are progress
  • Every error is a step forward. Be bold, be brave, and don’t hold back. Confidence grows with use.

Challenge for the Month

Choose one everyday activity to do entirely in English — journaling, grocery shopping, texting a friend, or even your internal thoughts.

Stick with it for a week and see how your fluency shifts!
