Award in Recruitment and Employee Selection

This module is designed for students who are interested in learning about the best practices and current trends in the field of recruitment and employee selection. The module will cover a wide range of topics, including legal and ethical considerations, job analysis and design, recruitment strategies, selection methods and tools, onboarding and retention strategies, and the use of technology and data in the recruitment selection proves. Students will learn about the key concepts and theories that underpin recruitment and selection, as well as the practical skills and techniques needed to design, implement, and evaluate recruitment and selection processes. The module will also cover the use of data and analytics in recruitment and selection, including how to measure the effectiveness of recruitment and selection methods and how to use data to improve decision-making. Additionally, the module will explore the role of technology in recruitment and selection, including the use of applicant tracking systems, online assessments and video interviewing. By the end of the module, students will be able to design, implement and evaluate recruitment and selection processes that are legal, ethical and effective.

    Teaching and Learning Methods

    The module will be delivered through face-to-face lectures with theoretical and real-world practice examples, with face-to-face tutorials whereby relevant literature is reviewed with students and disucssions are encouraged.

    Assessment Methods

    1. Individual Assignment 60%

      That will include:

    • A solution to a presented organisation problem on recruitment and selection (with relevant literature and referencing) -- 15 marks
    • Information on where candidates can be sourced from -- 10 marks
    • Proposed candidate selection methods -- 15 marks
    • Proposed package for compensation and benefits for the chosen candidate -- 15 marks
    • Reference list -- 5 marks

    2. Panel Interview 40%

    Students will be assigned into groups (maximum of 3 persons per group) in preparation for a simulated panel interview. Students will be given the job description and company requirements, and will need to create an interview matrix and interview guide (10%). Students will then interview the pseudo candidate (while being supervised by an experienced recruiter) (20%) and submit their final recommendation in writing (a one page report) on the suitability of the candidate for the role (10%).
